Hello friend,
It’s me again. Have you eaten today? In my last letter, I told you how my Daddy would check up on me often to make sure I was eating even when I didn’t feel like it. Over time, I built up my appetite to the point where I started desiring food again. I would answer my dad’s call and before he had the opportunity to ask, I’d tell him, “I’ve eaten today.” I was eating fairly regularly then and wanted him to know that he had no cause to worry about me.
Do you know that God cares about you deeply? He told me so Himself. He is adamant that you take care of yourself while He takes care of you. He wants you to eat well and be satisfied. He wants you to eat so that you can grow and be strong. He says He knows that it may not be palatable now, but if you continue to eat what is necessary, you won’t notice when the necessary becomes the desired.
The word of God is bread and water. Jesus says that “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matt 4:4) The word of God is both living bread (John 6:48) and living water (John 7:37). It is food for the hungry soul and a source of refreshing to the thirsty soul.
Just as you need to eat to grow physically, you must eat to grow spiritually. Eating well helps our bodies to repair themselves when we’re injured, gives us the energy to do vital tasks, and build effective barriers against illness. A man who does not eat well is at risk of breakdown due to immunocompromise and malnutrition. That is the state your spirit is in when you don’t eat the bread of life. We read God’s word to grow and be strong spiritually.
Have you ever considered the Lord’s prayer, which says, “Give us this day our daily bread”? (Matt 6:11). Consider that Jesus speaks not only of bread that nourishes our bodies but of life for our souls. In 1 Corinthians 6:13, the Apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells us that God will destroy both food and the body. How possible is it that Jesus would emphasize nourishment for our bodies over our souls? Jesus teaches that we should ask for a more imperative source of nourishment. Ask for daily bread for your souls. The word of God that will sustain you for that day.
Verse of the day:
I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. Job 23:12b
My beloved friend, eat today and every day. You can start with a little until your appetite grows. I am rooting for you.
Meal for the day: Psalms 119.
If the Bible is an all-you-can-eat buffet, Psalm 119 is a taster platter that allows you to appreciate every meal the course has to offer. Try it today.
See you very soon. Until then, don’t forget to breathe.
Your friendly servant,
Angela.
